This week is Sustainable Energy Week, hosted in Brussels and this year centered on energy efficiency and saving.
The week includes Energy Day. This day will be celebrated by a large number of European municipalities. It is worth noticing that Spain is the country in which more municipalities have joined this celebration.
Today the Sustainable Energy Europe awards will be given to their winners. These are awards for renewable energy or energy efficiency projects with a sizable positive impact on the environment and high replicability.
One of the key areas will be that of smart grids: electric grids able to gather real-time data from suppliers and consumers in order to optimize energy flows and achieve energy savings. European Commissioner for Energy Günther Oettinger, who will talk today about smart grids, believes it is possible to reduce our energy consumption by 10% thanks to this technology.
